It has definitely been a while since I've written a review of a restaurant however I've been having some stomach problems which stopped me from visiting some of the more exotic and interesting places on my itinerary. However due to a coincidence of good health and a birthday party I found myself with around 25 other people eating at Point de Vue restaurant in Rabat, Malta.
Now I know I can sometimes be a bastard when it comes to appreciation of waiters and service in general but even I can appreciate how hard it is for the staff of a restaurant to handle two huge tables laden with hungry (and noisy) people while still taking care of any other patrons who might be dining. On this respect the staff at Point de Vue was mostly impeccable. Service was fast and well organised both in the way orders were taken and in the way they handled weird requests (such as adding an extra addition to the table and hour into the meal). I was quite well pleased to see that a properseating map was created by the management of the restaurant to help take in coherent and precise orders. In this way everyone was accountable for which plate they ordered while making sure that no orders were lost in the process (god knows I count that as the largest of failures). All in all service was very good and I will be giving the higher than I thought mark of 8/10.
Point de Vue also describes itself as a an African restaurant. There are no significant notices of this except for some tribal masks hanging from the walls along with a selection of the finest fake leapard and zebra skin one can find as table decoration. One has to love the subtlety with which this is done as it is quite hard otherwise to think of the restaurant as an African one (Jokes on me I guess, first time I went to this restaurant I had a pizza and I thought the owner had some kind of hunting fetish ;) ).
So in what ways is this restaurant _African_ ? you might ask. Well it all becomes all the more interesting and wonderful once you open up the menu. Apart from a healthy selection of pizza's and pasta one will also find an interestingly interesting meat selection. There are many ways to describe the meat plate selection at this restaurant but I will choose the one best way; I think the selection is "Hilariously funny and pleasing"! (for those who are doubting this, I mean it in a good way) The times were I was faced with such terrible dilemmas as the one at Point de Vue have been few and far between. A great selection of steaks, chicken plates and fish ( I know some people had the seafood platter) was available. I personally decided to break a personal streak and for once enjoy a plate of chicken. The item in question was a "Kuku Mozambique" which turned out (as described on the menu) to be a whole chicken, cut in half so it would stay flat, covered in spices and grilled. It may sound grotesque but it is a wonderful plate for good food eaters. Other people at table which had ribs, steak or pasta were all pleasantly content at the end of the meal with many declaring several weeks of diet after such a hearty meal! In the end I have to concede that I was happy to eat at such a place and give the brilliant mark of 8.5/10 for the food!
All in all it was a great meal at a pleasant restaurant which deserves the best of praise. The final price at the end of the meal was 438Eur between what I think were 25 people; One has to agree that even though this may appear to be slightly on the high side, it is also reflects the fact that many people ordered dishes that although succulent and juicy carried also an interesting price tag.
P.S. I Almost forgot! One of the steak dishes available was a 1.5Kg steak that was so inviting I swear I could hear it calling me from the kitchens. Unfortunately a rather boring and painful stomach condition stopped me from enjoying this platter of the gods :( Will be for another time!
